Strides for Life

Support our team “St. Dunstan’s for Dylan!”

Along with our St. Dunstan’s TERESA Committee, we would like to ask you to please
support our Strides for Life team, “St. Dunstan’s for Dylan”, by registering to walk, run,
or wheel (along with your pets too) on Sunday October 21st at the 9th Annual Strides
for Life Walk around Lake Merced.

Strides For Life is a non-profit organization founded by Larry and Barbara Cappel along
with the support of many members of the St. Dunstan School & Parish Community.
Larry, our school’s track coach for the past 24 years, and his wife, Barbara, created
the nonprofit Strides for Life in honor of their son Dylan (a St. Dunstan Alumni) who
passed away in 2002 from Colon Cancer at the too young age of 23. Dylan was a
dynamic youth who was felled by the disease while training for a berth on the 2004 US
Olympic rowing team. This foundation raises money to pay for tests and treatment that
patients need to determine if they have colon cancer. The foundation is directed toward
people who lack insurance or the means to pay for such necessary tests or treatment.
Since 2005, Strides for Life has provided nearly $1,000,000 of healthcare services to
uninsured patients. It is a worthy cause and we are proud to get behind it.

During next week’s Safety Week on Wednesday, October 3rd, students will be educated
about nutrition and health. As a part of this, Strides for Life will set up their giant blow
up colon for the children to walk through. In addition, any student who participates and
gets their free t-shirt at the event, will be able to wear it on a special “Free Dress” day at
school (date to be determined). Service hours are also available for 7th and 8th grade
students who volunteer to work at the event.

Please consider supporting this worthy cause and honoring Dylan’s memory along with
honoring Larry and Barbara Cappel for their generous time and efforts which they have
given to our St. Dunstan School and Parish Community over the past 25 years. Click

event, please consider making a monetary donation of any amount to the team).
