September 24, 2014
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Family Mass Set for Sunday, October 5th, 5:00pm St. Dunstan Parish will celebrate a monthly Family Mass on the first Sunday of each month, commencing on Sunday, October 5 at 5:00pm. Families with children attending St. Dunstan School and the Parish CCD program are particularly welcome, as well as young parishioners attending high school. All ministries: lectors, servers, musicians, choir, ushers, and Eucharistic ministers—will be performed by the young people attending. Should you wish to be involved in any of these ministries, please let us know: we would welcome your help. Refreshments will be provided after the Mass in the Parish Center. We look forward to meeting you on October 5th. If you, or your child, seek to be involved in the family Mass, communication and questions can be brought to school office or the parish rectory addressed to Dr. Colville or Fr. Brendan.
Family Directory Available
The 2014-15 family directory is available in the school office. One per family.
Mixed Bag and Mrs. Field’s Cookie orders due Thursday, September 25.
Thank you for supporting our fall fundraiser and for Mrs. Leta Labson for coordinating it. Your orders are due, tomorrow, Thursday, September 25th and can be left at the school office.
The school advisory board is currently making an analysis of matching funds wherein parents and their workplace companies combine financial contributions (matching funds) for the benefit of our school. We have several parents who do this and we are requesting current families to consider doing this, if it is possible to do. In next week’s communication we will elaborate on the process and benefits of matching funds.
Parish Festival Raffle Tickets
Mr. Marvin Laubacher spoke to our morning assembly regarding the parish festival raffle. Raffle tickets have been sent home. We are asking each family to sell 2 books. Additional books can be picked up in the school office. Lets get behind our festival raffle ticket efforts and make it the best so far! Besides incentives for classes and students the first place winner gets $2,000.00, second place gets $1,000.00 and third place gets $500.00. Thank you.
For those students needing rescue medication dispensed from school parents need to provide:
- Note from doctor with instructions in use.
- Medication in original box/bottle.
- Note from parent requesting us to dispense. [This goes for both prescribed and over the counter medications]
Please label all outerwear, lunch boxes, and water bottles—so if left outside on yard can be returned to student.
Email Communication and Policy
If you have a quick question or clarification you may email your teachers. For any other concerns, please call school and ask for a call back or an appointment to meet to speak directly with your teacher. Thank you.

Art in Action
Welcome back! I hope all of you had a fantastic summer! Are you ready for Art in Action?
This is such a fun way to get involved in your child’s class. Without parent volunteers, our Art in Action program would not be a success.
For each grade, I need 1 – 2 docents and about 3 classroom helpers. The docent is the volunteer who leads the initial discussion about a piece of art and then the docent guides the kids through creating their own artwork, step by step. Some parents double up and share the docent role.
Art in Action publishes a series of books, grade by grade. They provide detailed, recipe-style directions for guiding successful discussions and projects, while still allowing the flexibility to ensure that each project will complement any classroom environment.
The online tools, in addition, are terrific. You’ll find step-by-step guidance through video tutorials, discussion points, other lesson-planning resources, and more.
You need to create an an Art in Action account first, before you can access the videos, lesson plans, along with all the other helpful tools. Please let me know if you need one.
*Classes starts September 6th. (Please see the attached training schedule link)
Thank you parents for all your help!

This week’s reflection comes from Through the Year with Pope Francis: Daily Reflections.
Gentleness is somewhat forgotten virtue: being gentle, making room for others. There are so many enemies of gentleness, aren’t there? Starting with gossip. When people prefer to tell tales, to gossip about others, to give others a few blows. These are daily events that happen to everyone, and to me too…They are temptations of the evil one, who does not want the Spirit to create this gentleness in Christian communities.
-Homily, Domus Sanctae Marthae, April 9, 2013
Reflection: Once we gossip, our words are out there, never to be collected again. Take some time to examine your conscience and recall the times you have spoken poorly of others. Resolve to root out this temptation of the evil one and grow in the virtue of gentleness.
Sincerely in Christ,
Dr. Bruce Colville
Principal, St. Dunstan School
