Dear Parents and Guardians:
I want to thank our Men’s Club for a very enjoyable family evening as we welcomed children to dinner and basketball last Monday.
As we gear up for our annual Lobster Dinner Dance, I want to remind everyone to turn your reservation and payments in and encourage raffle ticket sales. The winning class who sell the most raffle tickets will earn a bowling field trip and pizza lunch.
Keep Markus Hackenberg in your prayers. We wish him a full recovery from the knee surgery he had today.
I want to remind parents to continue monitoring their children for head lice. If lice are detected, please notify the school immediately so we can inform classmates’ parents. We require proof of treatment at their return to school. Please download and read the letter for more information.
We wish our 6th grade girls and 7th grade boys basketball teams good luck in the playoffs this weekend. The 7th grade JV boys will be playing at St. Catherine’s at 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 1st. The 6th grade girls will be playing at St. Pius at 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 1st. Free dress for students if you bring in peanut butter and/or jelly to the event. Please turn in your peanut butter and/or jelly to Ms. Sandoval at St. Catherine’s and Mrs. Pangasnan at St. Pius.
I remind players, coaches, parents, and students to cheer and support our teams in a respectful manner upholding PPSL policies and our Christian Code of Conduct. Any concerns are to be brought up to respective coaches, sports commissioners, athletic board chairperson or principal in a timely and responsible manner. Go Knights! Have fun, compete well, and be good sports.
Chocolate Sale Update
If you haven’t turned in your money from the chocolate sale, please turn it into the office as soon as possible.
Tuition Contract for 2015-16
Parents of students, who are returning next year, please complete the 2015/2016 Tuition Payment Contact and return to the office by Friday, March 6, 2015. Knights of Columbus Annual Tootsie Roll Drive for the Mentally Challenged
This event occurs March 7 and at all the Sunday Masses on March 8. The Knights are seeking volunteers from our 8th grade class and CCD 8th grade class. Please see Mr. Cosgriff for sign-ups.
Lobster Dinner Dance- March 14, 2015
Our annual spring fundraiser Lobster Dinner Dance this year will be on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Reservation forms were sent home with your child before the break. Please be sure to turn your form and payment in to the school office by Friday, February 27th!
Raffle forms were also sent home before the break. This year we have a Windows 8 PC, a Windows 8 RT tablet, and bluetooth headphones up for raffle! Tickets are $2 each or 12 for $20. If you need more tickets, please check with Ms. Coustier in the school office.

- Please check Lost and Found in lobby. Items not retrieved will be used for the next uniform and used uniform sale.
- Please keep ill students home. Any student with a fever must be kept home until fever free for 24hrs without medication.
- Please remember to call school to report any absence by 9:00 am in the morning.
Financial Assistance Application
Families who are interested in applying for financial aid please go to our school website www.st-dunstan.org and link to Admissions/Tuition Assistance. Complete the procedures for applying for financial aid by April 15, 2015. Please contact school bookkeeper, Louise Cordova, if you have any questions.
Blackberry Farm – June 11
Blackberry Farm will be scheduled for Thursday, June 11. It is the only date available suitable to our school needs. Kindergarten graduation will be moved to Wednesday, June 10. Please note the adjusted schedule for the last week of school. These changes will be noted on our website calendar.

Friday Coffee and Doughnut Social – March 6
At the Advisory Board meeting, it has been decided that the Friday coffee and doughnut social will be every first Friday of the month. There is no agenda. Just come by after assembly to the Parish Center to enjoy a cup of coffee before you go to work or run your errands. All are welcome.

Pen with No Ink – Fall Issue
The eighth grade class would like to inform you about all the great things happening at St. Dunstan School through the eyes of the students. This is the last issue of the year. We would like to thank editor, Maddie H., the 8th grade class, and Mrs. Aveson for communicating all of the great things our students do throughout the year.
Millbrae Lion’s Club Used Glasses Collection
The Lion’s Club asked if we would help them in their efforts to collect used glasses for those in-need. A collection box will be placed in the school lobby on Friday. The “Used Eyeglass Collection” is one of the Millbrae Lion’s Club activity projects. This project can actually change someone’s life. Millions of people in developing nations and in the U.S. are in need of eyeglasses, which they cannot afford. For children, clear vision means a better education, healthier development and a better quality of life. For adults, it means greater employment opportunity, and economic strength. For seniors, it means less dependence on others.
Art in Action
Welcome back! I hope all of you had a fantastic summer! Are you ready for Art in Action? This is such a fun way to get involved in your child’s class. Without parent volunteers, our Art in Action program would not be a success.
For each grade, I need 1 – 2 docents and about 3 classroom helpers. The docent is the volunteer who leads the initial discussion about a piece of art and then the docent guides the kids through creating their own artwork, step by step. Some parents double up and share the docent role.
Art in Action publishes a series of books, grade by grade. They provide detailed, recipe-style directions for guiding successful discussions and projects, while still allowing the flexibility to ensure that each project will complement any classroom environment.
The online tools, in addition, are terrific. You’ll find step-by-step guidance through video tutorials, discussion points, other lesson-planning resources, and more.
You need to create an an Art in Action account first, before you can access the videos, lesson plans, along with all the other helpful tools. Please let me know if you need one.

In previous years, St. Dunstan School receives generous donations from families and parishioners. We have received donations for our technology fund, athletics, art-in-action, safety upgrades (video cameras and walkie-talkies), improvements (like new carpet and tents) and scholarship for needy families.
This year, we would like to purchase additional iPads, expand our bandwidth and buy a new slide for the playground as well as an awning structure in the South Yard. Our goal is to increase donations by tapping FREE money sources. One of which is the Company Gift and Volunteer Matching Programs. These charitable giving programs are set up by corporations in which the company matches employee donations (monetary and some companies even match volunteer hours!) to eligible nonprofit organizations like St. Dunstan School. Each company has its own guidelines that may be discussed with HR or check company’s website. Some companies may have employees choose to donate to particular funds (ex. technology, playground, etc) or general funds (school will choose a particular area to use the donation). Other companies provide matching for retirees as well. For example, if a grandparent worked for PG&E, their donations are also eligible for matching gifts, too.
A limited list of companies that offer these programs is attached. Please let us know if your company has a matching program and is not in our list. We will update the list accordingly. If St. Dunstan School is not on your company-giving list, you can make a request to add our school to the list. You may contact St. Dunstan office if you need additional information. Note that there’s a time period for Community Giving Campaigns for some organizations. PG&E’s campaign is from September through October 31 and Kaiser is from November 1 – 30 while other companies are year round.
Let’s take advantage of this opportunity! If 20 families agree to donate $500 each with company matching program, we double the amount from $10000 to $20000 almost instantaneously.Let’s make

Box Tops Fundraiser
Welcome back to school! I’m thrilled to be the Box Tops for Education Coordinator for St. Dunstan School. Box Tops is such an easy way for parents to get involved in their child’s education. Just by purchasing Box Tops products, clipping the coupons and sending them into school, we earn cash that can be used to buy anything we need. You can find Box Tops on thousands of your favorite products, from Big G cereals to Avery office supplies to Hanes T-shirts to Boise printer paper.
Last year we earned $596.60! This year we are hoping to earn $1000! To learn more and track our school’s progress, log in at BoxTops4Education.com (BTFE.com). Please print out some of the collection sheets online. They are easy to use and lots of fun for the kids.

Labels for Education
St-Dunstan has participated in “Labels for Education” program since year 2000. “Labels for Education” has been awarding free educational equipment/supplies to schools in exchange for proofs of purchase from Campbell’s family of brands, Pepperidge Farm selected products, Prego, Swanson….etc. Below is the link for participating products: http://www.labelsforeducation.com/Earn-Points/Participating-Products. Please look for the UPC of “Labels for Education” on the product package, cut and bring it to school. It will allow us earn points and redeem whatever our school front office. We want to say big “Thank you” for those parents and students for turning in your UPC labels at the end of last school year. Let’s all continue to look out, cut and collect these labels. To help us, we are offered the September 2014 special bonus point offers from them. If you have the UPC of Labels for Education for Campbell and Pepperidge Farm, kindly submit by September 30, 2014 to front office. The Dynamic of Hope
Anyone exercising a role of leadership – allow me to say, anyone whom life has anointed as a leader – needs to have practical goals and to seek specific means to attain them. At the same time, there is always the risk of disappointment, resentment, and indifference if our plans and goals do not materialize.
Here I would appeal to the dynamic of hope that inspires us to keep pressing on, to employ all our energies and abilities on behalf of those for whom we work, accepting results, making it possible to strike out on new paths, being generous even without apparent results, yet keeping hope alive, with the constancy and courage that comes from accepting a vocation as leader and guide.
